How Are We Caring For Our Planet?

Climate change is a dark cloud that hangs over our heads. The latest IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change) report released in February this year warned that it was now “almost inevitable” that temperatures would rise above 1.5°C. Thus, the protection of our environment is an urgent problem that everyone, from governments to businesses to individuals, need to recognise and address.

As an organisation that believes in change and individual responsibility, MTAG Group assembled a Sustainability Working Group that focuses on ways to reduce our impact on the environment. Generating waste and carbon emissions is an inevitable part of running a business – which is why it is all the more important for us to continually invest efforts and resources in caring for our planet.

So, how are we doing that?

Greenery Efforts In Our HQ

Our immediate environment is where we start. Our HQ at Kawasan Perindustrian III was recently furnished with a mini botanical garden, with many tropical species of flora and fauna. Aesthetically pleasing to the eye, we hope to inspire our employees and other individuals to cultivate a greater sense of appreciation for the natural environment.

More importantly, plants and trees play an important role in regulating the air and storing carbon. A double win for the environment!

Responsible Procurement Practices

Over 70% of MTAG Group’s suppliers are made up of local vendors. We strongly advocate in supporting the Malaysian economy by procuring domestically, where feasible. This allows us to avoid unnecessary emissions that might come from extensive freight and shipping journeys.

Apart from creating added value in the economy and nearby communities, the practice of sourcing locally has many other benefits which include flexible and quick delivery arrangements and better monitoring of supplied goods.

Responsible Waste Management

We seek to minimise our ecological footprint by reducing the impact of our waste disposal activities on the environment. Our recyclable wastes, such as paper cartons, kraft paper and plastic, are collected by approved waste collectors for recycling purposes, with approval from the Malaysia Custom Industries Department.

Other non-recyclable wastes, such as adhesive papers and tapes, are disposed at a specified waste disposal area (following the Custom’s approval), which are then collected by authorised waste contractors to be sent to authorised landfills.

With our careful handling of waste, unwanted environmental pollution is kept to the minimum.

ISO Environmental Compliance

Our Environmental Management System is certified with the internationally recognised ISO 14001:2015, which provides a framework and systemic approach for continuous improvement in environmental management. So far, we have had zero cases of environmental non-compliance, which is testament to our commitment to caring for our planet.

By pegging ourselves to an international standard, MTAG Group will be continuously striving to diversify and implement more practices to mitigate the damaging effects of climate change.

This crisis affects us all. Join us in caring for our planet – like simply starting by planting a seed in your backyard!
